A system in Figure 1 is a lateral jet micro drilling system since it makes hole laterally by using micro jets. During the operation, the jets are eroding the reservoir until target depth or lateral total depth (LTD) is reached. A flexible perforated liner can be attached to the jets which will be left on the hole to prevent the hole collapsing.
The vertical depth is controlled by the CCL (casing collar locator) censor, cable footage, and the length of the tubing run. CCL has an electric line for connection to the control panel on the surface. The electric line is also provided to activate the electric packer or shoe hanger on the shoe.
The angled elbow in the shoe will direct the micro jets laterally. The lower part of the shoe can be rotated to drill other lateral holes. Typically, the fluid used to drill is water but other fluid can be applied such as surfactant, diesel, or crude oil.
